The Joy of Champagne

With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, many of you already know how you will be seeing in 2013. For those of you who don’t, stay tuned for our concierges’ expert advice and recommendations later this week. But whether you decide to spend your Silvester in Berlin with the revellers at Brandenburg Gate or, say, up high above the fireworks at Viktoriapark in Kreuzberg, one thing’s for certain: a glass of champagne is sure to help 2012 go out with a bang.

Champagne at the Hotel Concorde Berlin

The Hotel Concorde Berlin has a wide range of champagnes on offer, as well as various unique and interesting creations concocted by head barman Nico and his knowledgeable team. The champagne is served ice cold with fresh strawberries – pure, simple and delicious. The lobby of the hotel – stylish and relaxed, no matter what the season – is particularly welcoming during the festive period. The impressive Christmas tree and holiday atmosphere are a great place to raise a toast with friends and loved ones.

For some reason I used to associate cocktails, especially champagne cocktails, with summer. There’s nothing better than a fruity summer cocktail, al fresco somewhere, with the sun still shining at 9pm in the evening. But the winter champagne cocktail Nico served up to me as I sat people-watching in the lobby forced me to reconsider my assumption; it was delicious! The flavours were wintery – cinnamon and fruity –  whilst the champagne gave it a fantastic levity. If you’re not so partial to a glass of mulled wine, this is a classy alternative, and no less festive!

However you spend your New Year’s Eve in Berlin – whether you’re splitting your sides watching Dinner for One, pouring molten lead into a bowl of cold water, or setting off fireworks by the dozen – I hope you have a wonderful time, and I’ll see you in 2013! Cheers! Prost! Santé!
