Prizewinning Stories of Adventure
As you may already know, the Hotel Concorde Berlin supports a number of charitable and cultural projects. One of their most longstanding partnerships is with the Bundesverband Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung e.V., a charity dedicated to tackling illiteracy in Germany by offering a range of services for those affected and, equally importantly, increasing public awareness of this taboo subject. Click here for more information. This week I would like to tell you about one of their most recent projects: a story writing competition for people who have overcome illiteracy.
Applicants were invited to write a story on the topic “unterwegs“, or in English, “on the road”. The jury whittled the entries down to a shortlist, from which the three winners were selected by Facebook followers. You can read the excellent stories (in German) here.
The winners were treated to a luxury city break in Berlin, and of course they stayed at the Hotel Concorde Berlin!
General Manager Carsten Colmorgen greeted the winners and their guests and took them on a tour of the hotel – he explained many of its architectural and design features in the luxurious suites and chic lounge, he took them behind the scenes to the laundry rooms and kitchens for some tasty little treats, and he pointed out some of the iconic buildings on Berlin’s skyline from the top floor of the hotel.
The winners, many of whom had never visited the city before, were shown the sights and sounds of Berlin and no doubt left with plenty more ideas and stories on the subject of travel. Well done to them all!
