Lobbygeflüster with Freddy Fischer and His Cosmic Rocktime Band
Lobbygeflüster is a frequent event where musicians from the German and French pop-scene perform an exclusive acoustic set to an intimate audience in the Le Faubourg Lounge. This month’s featured artist was Berlins most charming disko act, Freddy Fischer and His Cosmic Rocktime Band.
As a secret fan of disco I was really excited for a chance to listen to a band regarded as one of Germany’s best acts in the genre. I got even more excited once I saw the setting of the performance. Upon arrival I, along with other VIP guests, were seated in the white fabric enclosed lounge where the chairs were arranged around a small off center stage. The evening was hosted by music enthusiast and TV presenter, Wiebke Colmorgen, who interviewed and playfully interacted with the band and audience in between sets. Freddy Fischer and the band were able to share rare details about his music, the inspiration for some of his most popular hits as well as upcoming projects. It was as if we were all having a personal conversation in a parlour with the artist.
Throughout the evening Freddy Fischer performed acoustic versions of fan favorites creating a comfortable and cool vibe in the lobby, totally different to the traditional offerings of electro and hard hitting baselines which monopolize the Berlin music scene. Although the evening was laid back, Freddy Fischer’s music inspired a few to get up and dance while the more reserved attendees tapped their feet to the infectious sound of His Cosmic Rocktime Band.
I’ve have lived and socialized in Berlin for three years and have yet to come across an event that is remotely similar to Lobbygeflüster. It was a truly unique event that transformed the lounge of this West Berlin luxury hotel to one of the hippest spots in the city. If you don’t believe me feel free to take a look at this video from that night’s performance.
