The over indulgences of Christmas are coming to an end, resolutions are being hatched and how you’ll spend the evening is the question on everyone’s lips – it can only be one occasion, New Year’s Eve. Known as ‘Silvester’ in Germany (after the day of the Feast of Pope Sylvester I), deciding on what to for New Years Eve can be a stressful affair, so here we have compiled a list of some options for a wonderful time in Berlin.

Where to spend your evening if you want to be…

At an iconic landmark

Join the one million other visitors at Berlin’s iconic Brandenburger Tor for the annual New Year’s countdown. With an area of 2km stretching from the gate to Siegessäule (or golden angel) and tens of bars and music stages to choose from there won’t be a dull moment. An alternative place to see fireworks and enjoy the crowds is also Gendarmenmarkt, which in December houses the most beautiful Christmas market.

In the luxury of West Berlin

If the thought of spending your evening out in the cold with thousands of others doesn’t appeal then we have the perfect solution: spend the night with loved ones in the comfort of Hotel Concorde Berlin. Our brasserie Le Faubourg will be presenting a special “menu de saint-sylvestre” including goose-liver parfait with pop-corn ice-cream and lobster and sweet potato stock – why not welcome the New Year with a little luxury.

Dancing the night away

Dig out your dancing shoes – Berlin has a wealth of options for celebrating Silvester on the dancefloor. Prenzlauer Berg venue Kulturbrauerei boasts 15 dancefloors with 30 DJs, and for the budget conscious there is also an all inclusive party with Fritz at Postbahnhof. If swing is more your thing then worry not, impressive movie theatre the Delphi will also be hosting a classy evening of live jazz, burlesque and dancing with their event ‘Swinging Silvesterball’.

On A Boat

Take escaping from the masses to a whole new level by spending your Silvester admiring the fireworks from the vantage point of a boat. Float sedately along the spree sipping champagne and taking in Berlin’s landmarks without having to jostle for elbow room – bliss.

Whichever you choose your evening is sure to be memorable – and don’t forget, our friendly concierge team are also happy to make suggestions and the front desk happy to get those all important transport bookings in order.

Here’s wishing you a bonne année!
