Getting to Know our Kiez: der Küchenladen

When I discovered the Küchenladen, a kitchenware shop located just around the corner from Concorde on the Knesebeckstrasse, I was faced with one of life’s biggest questions: is it too late to start buying myself Christmas presents? If it isn’t, then how many Le Creuset pans are too many?

Classic brands: Le Creuset

Sandwiched between two cafes (pardon the pun), the Küchenladen offers a colourful collection of everything kitchen-related. The shop isn’t huge, but it’s well stocked, pretty and has a friendly feel to it.

From mushroom brushes to cherry stoners, egg slicers to oversized salt and pepper mills – the Küchenladen has lots of obscure instruments and contraptions you didn’t even know you needed. It’s a great place to find birthday presents for awkward aunts and fussy third cousins.

The whole wall is taken up with milk jugs and egg cups in every colour imaginable – so you’ll almost certainly find the right shade to suit your kitchen.

Coffee addicts will find a wide range of paraphernalia for their daily fix, and the owners are always more than happy to advise on the various models and brewing methods. Your coffee will taste even better served in a baby pink espresso cup or maroon coffee mug.

I would recommend leaving yourself plenty of time for your visit. If you can’t make up your mind then and there, or regret not buying those fine wooden salad tongs, you can also visit the Küchenladen online or reserve an item from their range for your next visit.
